San Juan, just outside Alicante City
Playa de San Juan
Just outside of Alicante City is the area known as San Juan. Accessed easily by tram, bus (no's 21 & 22) or car, here you will find a beach that is considered one of the finest in Spain, some excellent hotels and stunning views all around the coast as far as El Campello.
It is the furthest beach to travel to from the city, but wow! No wonder people call this the most stunning beach in the Alicante province. Consistently awarded the Blue Flag, San Juan boasts 7 kilometres of fine golden sand and, at an average width of 85m, you will never have difficulty finding that perfect spot!
It has all the facilities you'd expect. Water sports, including kayak and dinghy rental, a red cross post, access for the less able-bodied and a healthy smattering of restaurants, bars and chiringuitos (beach bars) where you can enjoy a cooling drink or languish over lunch.
Close by there is also a fabulous 18-hole golf course.
Although livelier in the summer months (particularly in the evenings), the wintertime focus still remains on the beach. There are a number of public volleyball courts (all floodlit), a Public Gym attended by qualified physiotherapists (10:00 until 14:00) and of course water sports including sailing courses.
So with the vista of the mountains in the distance and the turquoise waters lapping at your toes, in winter or summer - what more could you wish for?
