Louvre for the MARQ?
the well known statue of a discus thrower 'Discobulus'
Having had one of its most successful seasons ever by collaborating with the British Museum, Alicante's Archeological Museum, the MARQ, hopes to repeat this success with an 'entente cordiale' with the Louvre.
Over 220,000 people came to see the MARQ's exhibition, 'The Body Beautiful – Art and Thought in Ancient Greece' with 125 objects from the British Museum's Greek and Roman Collection. Its centre piece was the well known statue of a discus thrower 'Discobulus' which had never been outside the British Museum before.
Now, MARQ bosses want to bring over and exhibition about life and death in ancient Egypt and have had several recent meetings with representatives from the Louvre in Paris recently. If all goes according to plan the mummies and sarcophagi of two Egyptians, Séramon and Ankhpakhered, who lived thousands of years ago will arrive in Alicante from the Besancon Museum in France.
