This is the bar to wash away those stresses and strains. Sit here in the cooling sea breeze and listen to the gentle strains of classical music whilst looking out over the expensive yachts and motorboats in the marina. It looks like a small cute British pub but is Spanish run. It has a great atmosphere - particularly in summer when the tables spill out into the square - and serves all the brands of alcohol you would expect. So try a slice of the Spanish version of England!

This little café bar is the perfect place to sit and watch the mass exodus from the beach on a summer's evening when a range of fish tapas is offered from around 3 euros. Also open during the day, it’s great for a mid morning coffee whilst you watch the hustle and bustle of the Esplanada.

If you haven't visited a Sidreria before - now is your chance. Serving a 'scrumpy-like' cider, the Asturians in the North of Spain have turned drinking into an art form. Order your bottle of Cider, and the waiter will pour it from a great height into your glass, causing the cider to froth. Drink it down in one mouthful and whatever is left over - throw it into the trough! Then start again!
If that proves too complicated for you then they also serve beer, wine and spirits.

If you can't do without a nice cold glass of Guinness - then this is the place. As popular with local students as it is with ex-pat holiday-makers on a daytrip, it has a unique atmosphere. Open all day, everyday it's very easy to find and you'll be sure of a warm welcome.

Another version of an English pub - it's amazing how many there are in Alicante city. This one however is on the main drag in the El Barrio area and is a great place to sit and people watch on hot summer nights or cool winter evenings when you can keep warm under the outdoor heaters.

A kitsch little bar and a definite must see - the deco inside is a combination between religious art and a high-class brothel! Chandeliers, sumptuous red velvet curtains and golden cherubs vie for your attention. Back outside you can relax on the terrace and listen to the sound of the fountain in the cathedral garden.

This bar is very popular with American students and American football is shown regularly on the TVs perched precariously on the window ledges! Like all the bars in the Barrio - the inside is tiny, but sit outside on its very busy corner and watch the world go by!

Enjoy a cocktail and expand your artistic horizons at this French themed bar. Its cozy dark wood interior is lifted by the colourful paintings on the rich red walls and behind the bar is a genuine penny-farthing. Sketches by Aubrey Beardsley can be found on the stairs leading to the loos.
