Avenida De Alfonso X El Sabio
Although you're unlikely to be catering for yourself if you are visiting Alicante City - a visit to the Central Market is a definite must! Full of colour and life you get an appreciation of the fabulous local produce available. Spread over two floors (fish and meat on one, vegetables on the other) it is fully air conditioned in the summer making it ideal for a leisurely stroll around the stalls.

Step inside this colourful shop and its like stepping back in time. Here the age-old tradition of handmade tiles and pottery is still alive. Spread through 3 small, dusty rooms you can find religious artifacts mingling with salad bowls and if you rummage about in the back room you can find genuine old hand made tiles.

If you've shopped in a Spanish City before then you will know all about this Spanish Store. The largest department store chain in Spain you can buy everything from designer fashion through to electrical goods. There is also a very good supermarket and café.
For books, electrical goods, DVDs and household stuff head for the store at the bottom of the street. Whilst the other El Corte Ingles, at the top end, is where you can buy handbags, cosmetics and clothes.

This Spanish designer is extremely well known amongst the rich and famous. The style is more suited to the more mature woman rather than twentysomethings and guarantees you will exude elegance. Open all through the day and early evening the shops are independent, small businesses selling handicrafts, jewellery and clothing. If nothing else the building is certainly worth a look for its impressive position on the port, and there are plenty of places where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch!

Competitively priced, these stalls provide a wide and varied selection of products from around the world. You can find silver jewellery from India, artefacts from Indonesia and leather goods from Spain displayed alongside clothing, handbags and gifts. It's a great place to while away an hour or two, wandering up and down the stalls in the dappled shade and enjoying a little retail therapy that won't cost a fortune.

Another Spanish chain now well known in the UK. This is the place to get cheaper versions of the designer catwalk trends. Good quality clothes and shoes at fabulous prices for both men and women - it's no wonder that this place is always packed with shoppers.

Zara Home takes all the principles of Zara into the area of houseware items. Well-designed, good quality products that are bang up to date on style and colour are available here. Majoring on the bedroom and bathroom 100% cotton sheets, duvet covers and towels can be bought at excellent prices.
